Net Positive was engaged for the HVAC modernization at Johansen High School HVAC and controls upgrade on eight other school sites. At Johansen, NPC’s scope was for mechanical and plumbing design to modernize an entire HS campus including decommissioning heating and cooling central plant, adding package units, and plumbing for fire sprinkler updates. The mechanical design of this project focused on the decommissioning of the campus central plant and addition of 115 new roof top package units to improve controls, indoor air quality and user comfort. The existing campus architecture is aesthetically pleasing, thus one of the primary goals was to maintain the facade and finishes. Designed in only 10 weeks, this complex project was planned to span several years under multiple phases so that student learning isn’t interrupted. Under the same contract, NPC also modernized controls at 8 sites throughout the district for the purpose of creating a reliable system that was not dependent on a particular vendor. This scope did not involve DSA and was thus able to be completed under the first phase.
