Mechanical Designer

Position Summary

Under supervision of engineer of record(s), a Designer performs all aspects of building mechanical design, provides drafting and design support to the Mechanical team, and collaborates with other disciplines to coordinate mechanical designs.

Essential Functions

  • Complete mechanical design tasks and calculations for all aspects of building mechanical design, including HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler design with minimal supervision from engineering staff.
  • Independently research design options and apply engineering judgment to determine viable mechanical designs.
  • Apply principles of the building codes and standards applicable to mechanical design, including the National Mechanical Code, California Mechanical Code, California Energy Code, ASHRAE, NFPA.
  • Act as the mechanical point of contact on an assigned project(s) for both in-house and outside consultants/ designers.
  • Attend site meetings and site investigations. Perform site investigation tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Perform Construction Administration tasks as assigned – reviewing submittals and processing RFIs.
  • Seeks learning opportunities to continue education.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to benefit the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proficiency in reading/interpreting a construction document set.
  • The ability to work well with others (team player) and following instructions.
  • Proficient in office drafting standards (AutoCAD, REVIT, others).
  • Develop drawings from minimal direction by the Engineer of Record.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:

  • 2+ years.  

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

  • Must have PE or 10+ years of experience.

Supervisory Responsibility, if any:

  • None

Working Conditions

  • Typically work functions will be conducted in an office setting on a Monday through Friday workweek. Site visits required at times and may involve climbing ladders, walking on roofs, and following job site safety policies. Overtime and weekend hours may be necessary at times.
