Engineer In Training 1 (EIT)

Position Summary

Under direction of designer or mechanical engineer, EIT provides drafting support (detailed complex project drafting markups) using AutoCAD and/or REVIT. This individual will also provide HVAC load calculation assistance in the form of area take-offs, energy software simulations and other elementary HVAC/ Plumbing/ Fire Sprinkler calculations as directed. This individual is expected to develop and maintain a high quality of standards in accordance with the company standards and design guidelines. This individual prepares transmittals and other project-related documents as instructed, and is responsible for plotting and collating documents for project submission as instructed.

Essential Functions

  • Become proficient in the firm’s mechanical CAD and/or REVIT drafting standards.
  • Perform drafting assignments with accuracy neatness, and speed, including, but not limited to, setting up sheets at the start of a new project, drafting and editing of plans and details. 
  • Learn the basic principles of utilizing engineering software, including but not limited to EnergyPro, Trane Trace, Taco, etc.
  • Growing awareness of building codes and standards applicable to design, including the National
    Mechanical Code, National Plumbing Code, NFPA, California Energy Code, California Mechanical
    Code, California Plumbing Code, and other relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Work closely with senior engineering staff to assist with developing drawings during Construction Document phase.
  • Learn the role of the other disciplines on a project and learns the basics of cross-discipline coordination.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to benefit the organization.

Other Functions

  • May attend internal project “Kick-Off” meetings and site visits as required by supervising engineering staff.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and have awareness of hours required to complete a task.
  • Awareness and compliance with Net Positive standard operating procedures.
  • Attend industry professional events and internal technical training. Become proficient in the firm’s mechanical CAD and/or REVIT drafting standards.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • The ability to work well with others (team player) and follow instructions.
  • Develop drawings with direction from the Engineer or Designer.
  • Increased ability to read/interpret a construction document set.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Master’s degree is acceptable but not required.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

  • Must have received certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).

Supervisory Responsibility, if any:

  • None

Working Conditions

  • Typically work functions will be conducted in an office setting on a Monday through Friday workweek. Site visits required at times and may involve climbing ladders, walking on roofs, and following job site safety policies. Onsite project construction administration participation may be included. Overtime and weekend hours may be necessary at times.
